Exhibiting Green
Green Cities 2012 > Exhibition > Exhibiting Green
Green Cities is all about building, living and working sustainably, and the Green Building Council of Australia and the Property Council of Australia encourage all Green Cities exhibitors to exhibit green. Here are some tips to ensure your Green Cities stand is as environmentally friendly as possible in 2012!
Reduce
- Vehicles on the Road - ensure the efficient use of vehicles during bump-in and bump-out by making sure they have a full load. Pooling resources and sharing a bump-in vehicle with another exhibitor reduces waste and cost.
- Printed Material - printed brochures and factsheets often end up in landfill. Supply your event collateral electronically.
- Gift Bags and Giveaways - if you must use giveaways, consider sustainable options.
- Packing Material - where packaging is required ensure the material is sustainable, reusable or recyclable.
- Energy Consumption - nominate a member of your staff to ensure that unnecessary lighting or equipment is turned off overnight or when not in use.
- Printed Signs or Panels - keep printed panels to a minimum and where needed, ensure dates and event names are not printed on them so they can be use again.
- Consumption - wherever possible, hire don't buy, and think carefully about your purchases. Can you use them for something else once the show is over?
- VOCs - Ensure that any painted surfaces are VOC free.
Reuse
- Your Stand - many companies exhibit at multiple trade events throughout the year. Ensure your stand is relevant and can be used at multiple events.
- Furniture and Decorations - why not source second-hand furniture or decorations for your stand?
- Timber and Building Materials - many stand-build companies offer sustainable solutions for booth construction and customization such as recycled timber. Talk to your stand-builder to ensure your stand is the most sustainable it can be.
- Someone Else's Stand - many companies choose to upgrade their stand after a few years. Why not purchase another companies old stand? A few quick upgrades can give a stand a new lease on life and will cost you far less than a brand new one.
Recycle
- Materials - wherever possible buy products made from recycled materials.
- Paper - ensure all printers use recycled paper and vegetable ink and ensure all printers are set to print double-sided.
- Your stand - talk to your stand-builder about their green credentials and ensure any parts of your stand that can't be reused can be recycled.
- Banners - ensure your banners can be reused by ensuring that no date-specific logos or images are printed on them. If printing new banners, ensure they are constructed from sustainable materials such as bamboo.
