John Bilmon,  Managing Director,  PTW Architects

John Bilmon joined PTW (then Peddle Thorp and Walker) in 1982, attracted by the scale and opportunity of its projects, the firm’s focus on the Asian region and its established network of associated offices.  He has been instrumental in the diversification of PTW’s practice and workplace, building on development of the practice since that time.  A firm renowned for its award-winning high rise commercial buildings, PTW has augmented its strong reputation through a diversity of project types.  These projects range from large scale and complex commercial and residential projects to sports facilities, cultural and health projects to large scale planning and urban design.   John focuses on PTW bringing a different cultural and design sensibility to projects in different countries – an approach that has resulted in the firm being well-regarded, particularly in Asia.

John Bilmon has led the creative architectural and planning team responsible for the design of The Water Cube – Beijing’s National Aquatic Centre for the 2008 Olympics, since the inception of the project over 5 years ago.

John was Chairman of the Boards of Architectural Education and Practice before being elected by his peers as President of the RAIA NSW Chapter.  He is currently Chairman of an RAIA subsidiary company, IBL Limited, focusing on providing Professional Risk Management Services to building industry professionals as well as a number of other professional positions.  John is Vice President of Cranbrook School, Sydney, and Chairman of its Building and Development Committee.  Additionally he is involved in a number of community and sports-based organizations.  John is qualified in architecture and commerce and manages his broad obligations in a seamless and effective manner, giving each task attention and dedication.
