Wayne Westcott, Chief Executive Officer of ICLEI Oceania


Wayne Wescott is the Chief Executive Officer of ICLEI Oceania and serves as the Regional Director in Oceania for ICLEI. Prior to this position, he was a Director of Environs Australia.

Wayne has worked in not-for-profits, for local and state governments and as a consultant in the area of telecommunications, environmental management and local governance. He has trained individuals and organisations across Australia on Local Agenda 21, and designed and established ICLEI's Cities for Climate Protection® Program in Australia (which currently has over 200 councils participating across Australia) and the Water Campaign (which currently has over 70 Councils participating). He was also instrumental in setting up the new Centre for Public Agency Sustainability Reporting, a collaboration with the City of Melbourne, the State of Victoria and the Global Reporting Initiative.

As part of the ICLEI international Senior Management Team, Wayne was heavily involved in preparations for the 2002 Johannesburg World Summit on Sustainable Development, and attended both the World Summit and Prepcom4 in Bali, the last major preparatory meeting before Johannesburg. He co-ordinates the ICLEI China strategy and is heavily involved in strategic and technical issues relating to CCP internationally.

Wayne's approach to local sustainability action is focused on building capacity through multi-level, cross-sectoral, performance-based programs. He is a strong advocate of taking action through sustainable frameworks and of combining the need for short-term gains and long-term structural change.

Wayne is based in the Melbourne office of ICLEI Oceania and travels extensively in the Asia Pacific region on behalf of ICLEI international.
